Detroit is becoming more and more popular as one of the
tourist destinations of the Midwest. Never thought of before
as a city that would hold much appeal to anyone but
businessmen, Detroit is opening its doors as a location that
will keep you entertained for several days.
One of the most recent improvements to Detroit is the
makeover of the area known as Woodward Avenue. This district
is well known for the many theaters and other venues that
are home to numerous performances and concerts. You'll want
to find out ahead of time what shows are playing while
you're visiting the city. There is something there to suit
everyone's tastes and expectations.
If culture is an interest then you're in luck. The Detroit
Institute of Arts is one of the largest in North America.
This fine museum houses collections from many eras and
countries. For instance you'll find Asian, American,
Ancient, and 20th century art. Some of their most famous
paintings are by masters such as Picasso, Van Gogh, Degas,
and Rembrandt.
Henry Ford Museum is another important museum you should
never miss. This museum was established by Henry Ford
himself with a view to educate the masses on the inventions
of steam locomotive and motorized roller skates. This museum
displays a timeline and chronicle of the numerous inventions
of Henry Ford. Apart from that, the museum also displays the
history of the automobile industry of North America.
Another museum of importance in Detroit is the Motown
Historical Museum. In this museum you can find the original
recording studio used by Stevie Wonder, The Supremes, and
Smokey Robinson, but no paintings can be found hanging
around. The museum houses many memorabilia made famous by
many popular musicians.
Visiting Detroit with your children is a great way to
introduce them to the culture and arts of the Midwest. For
that day when they insist on doing something fun you might
want to suggest the New Detroit Science Center. This is a
great place to let your children interact with science.
They'll enjoy the advanced Digistar technology that shows
the universe, such as Mars, through the use of an
interactive virtual trip. Make sure that you schedule at
least a couple of hours at the center, however keep in mind
that very young children might have a hard time
understanding the technical side of this attraction.
The Detroit zoo is a worthwhile destination, as it houses
one of the largest wildlife resources in North America.
Among all the animals, gorillas and chimpanzees are the main
attraction of this zoo. Various other animals from the north
can be found in the Arctic Ring of Life, the Amphibian
Conservation Center, and the Innuit Village areas of the
zoo.
The best time to visit Detroit is in the spring or fall
months, which are less crowded than the months of summer
when families travel during the school vacation. Unless you
love winter, you'll want to avoid Detroit during these cold
months when the city shivers under a blanket of snow.
A trip to Detroit will give you a rewarding experience and
fun. Detroit offers all the entertainment in the world and
at the same time has its own uniqueness which you will never
want to miss.
